Frequently Asked Questions

How long does therapy last?

Therapy length is dependent on several factors including presenting symptoms/ issues, client goals and time able to dedicate to therapy, among other things.  Therapy goals are always determined at the start of our work together and we will review those goals every 3 months.  We see most of our clients for 6 months to 2 years dependent on their needs.  Some people choose to engage in therapy on and off for the duration of their lives to continue to heal and grow.  Our hope is that you build a safe and lasting connection to your therapist so you feel like you always have someone you can touch back in with as needed throughout life.   You can choose to terminate therapy at any time.

How often do we meet?

Frequency of sessions depends on client need, our schedules and financial ability.  Most of our therapists find it therapeutically beneficial to start out seeing clients once a week or once every two weeks and then gradually decrease frequency as goals are being met.  That being said, clients are always in control of session frequency.

How long are sessions?

Session length may depend on several factors including presenting issue, clinical need, financial considerations and therapist schedule.  Typical session length is 55 minutes, though many clients doing relationship/ family work or brainspotting benefit from a longer session length.

What are your appointment hours?

All of our therapists manage their own schedules, so session availability may differ between therapists.  In general, most of our therapists work day time/ weekday hours with some offering early morning or evening appointments.   Please contact us to find out if we have a time that will work for you!

 How much does therapy cost?

We are not "in network" with any insurance companies, so you are responsible for payment at the time of service.   Our rates range from $225 to $100 depending on length of session, type of therapy and therapist.  We do provide superbills to those who wish to seek out of network reimbursement and we can accept HSA/ FSA cards.   Please see our rates page for more information.

Do you provide in person or online sessions?

We provide both!   We can switch back and forth between whatever works best for you on any given day or select one modality.

What can I expect in therapy?

Our first session is an intake session, where your therapist learns more about your presenting concerns.  You may be assigned a formal mental health diagnosis during this visit.  We will also discuss treatment goals and potential therapy modalities.  You always have full autonomy in deciding to engage in any suggested therapy modality or treatment.  You can expect to discuss personal and sometimes challenging subjects which may be contributing to your presenting concerns.  You can expect that your therapist will provide support and apply therapeutic training and knowledge to your issues to help you meet your goals.   General feedback from clients is  that they enjoy coming to therapy, feel connected, understood and supported, and we even laugh sometimes!  Our goal is to make your therapy experience safe, helpful and positive.

How do I know which type of therapy will be most helpful for me?

Reach out to us at info@tlbtherapy.com or call 207-572-5504 to schedule a consult with one of our therapists and we can help make recommendations based on your presenting concerns.

Do you offer a free consultation?

We offer a 15 minutes free consultation via phone or telehealth to answer any questions you may have before beginning the therapy process.
